Adventure Begins in the Kitchen

Dinner With @Chobani

March 19, 2013 by Kristin

Chobani Dinner 2

What a week!  SXSW13 was unexpectedly grand.  Five days off of real work.  Five days off of fake work.  Five days of resting my mind and cruising through the city, plan-less, with my best buds.  I can’t wait to catch you all up!

Chobani Dinner 1

One of my first SX happenings was going to dinner with Chobani and a bunch of local bloggers at Parkside.  Megan and I navigated our Car2Go through ridiculous traffic, scored a super close, super teensy parking spot between two motorcycles, and got to reading about our Greek yogurt inspired dinner.

Parkside Austin

Avocado soup, beet salad, grilled prawns, braised beef short ribs, and yogurt custard desert – I should have paced myself.  But pacing was just not possible when each dish that arrived was completely divine.

Parkside Austin 2

Everything was so super delish, but I especially loved the avocado soup, prawns, and the basil ice cream that came along side the custard.  The soup was cool, crisp, with slight, salty bursts from the caviar.  The prawns were gynorm and wonderfully seasoned.  And the dessert…  Why wasn’t the dessert served first?  I tried so, so hard to finish, but just couldn’t.  Basil ice cream is happening in my kitchen.  Soon.

Parkside Austin 4

In addition to culinary goodness, the company was fantastic as well.  The folks at Chobani were so enthusiastic about being in Austin, meeting with Austin bloggers, and representing their company – I can’t say I’ve met with a brand that exuded more positive energy.  And!  Megan and I sat across from Miss Melody Fury, a super cool character that I hope to run into again in the real world and virtual world, alike.

Thanks a million, Chobani, for such a fun night!

And My #SXSW13 Vacation Begins!

I am officially off of work until the 18th and plan to soak up as much SXSW goodness as possible.  I started last night by picking up the INDMUSIC fellas from the airport and getting them badged, housed. and fed.

(INDMUSIC & Ariel/Kristin Dinner During SXSW12)

A little backstory…  Brandon and I met at a happy hour in LA during my first Ariel visit in 2009 – pre-FoodFash, pre-INDMUSIC.  We remained friends over the years since he’s good buds with Ariel and I spent more time in LA than one could possibly imagine.  I started FoodFash and moved to Austin, Brandon started INDMUSIC and moved to Brooklyn, and SXSW12 and the virtual world kept us in contact.

(A Lockhart BBQ Trip During SXSW12)

Last night, I took the crew to South Congress Cafe where they soaked in the quaintness of the restaurant and Austin in general.  And then they updated me on all the wonderful things that INDMUSIC has had their hands on lately.  Like have you heard of the Harlem Shake?  They are not only responsible for monetizing any video playing the Harlem Shake song, but they created the technology that connects a band’s YouTube page views with their ranking on sites such as Amazon, which subsequently affects Billboard rankings.  It’s a pretty big deal and you can read more about it here!

SXSW Schedule – First Blush

March 8, 2013 by Kristin

You know… I promised myself I wasn’t going to involve Excel in my SXSW happenings this year.  But for the same reasons that I can’t handle the surprise of gift receiving, I couldn’t help it.  The unknown is scary for me, even when it comes to tunes.  Besides, I didn’t even open Excel.  Google Docs… Completely different.

Zilker Park Kite Festival 2013

March 6, 2013 by Kristin

IMG_4248

I never, not for one moment, forget how wonderful Austin is and how lucky I am to be here.  But days like the Zilker Kite Festival, when there are no less than 20,000 people gathered under the sunshine and a clear blue sky…  Gosh, you can’t help but wonder how a place like this even exists.

IMG_4255

Matt, Snoop, and I flew our lady bug and Ninja Turtle kites, respectively, without a hitch.  We were even able to let out all the string, which I had never been able to accomplish before.  And Snoop, oh Snoop, was a sneaky little pup and stole a shrimp from our picnicking neighbors.  We all won a little bit during kite festival day!

Who knew an almost 30 year old could have this much fun flying a kite!

If you have any Instagram/Twitter pictures from Sunday that you’d like to share, please feel free to post a link to the picture in the comments below.
