Adventure Begins in the Kitchen

Hipsta-Sushi

September 1, 2011 by Kristin

I made a mental note as I walked out the door this morning to pack my camera and, whattayaknow, I left it on the kitchen counter.  Luckily I have the Hipstamatic app on my phone, which does its best to mask the terribleness of the iPhone 3 camera.  Where are you iPhone 5!?

Robbie, who I can usually convince to go wherever I want for lunch, has been a tad difficult lately.  I mean, seriously, what’s wrong with wanting to go to Cafe Hey every day for lunch?  Anyway, I lost that battle, and we settled on The Rack where I could get sushi and he could get man food.  I would never let him know that it worked out for the best, but it did, because the tuna and avocado salad was pretty much my dream lunch.

Don’t for get to check out my guest post on Then Heather Said!

Oh, Saturday…

August 27, 2011 by foodfash

Last night was a slight whoops.  I had plans all week to meet Val and Meghann for a late happy hour: 7PM, Cheap, be there, done.  But earlier in the day, I found out our Tampa office was awarded a $26M project in a still downward spiraling construction market, so happy hour started a tad earlier than I had planned.  Like… 4PM, Yard of Ale, the entire office, yay?  See, whoops.

My uber productive, first Saturday at home in quite some time turned into not-so-productive.  I popped an umeboshi plum (a supposed hangover cure) and headed to the pool to meet Val and Amber.

It was HOT!  I lasted a solid, muggy hour and then attempted to hop back on the path of productivity.  It was looking good!  Fabric store, Village Health Market, fresh and sinless lunch.  I was going places!

… until I got home and found comfort in my couch.  In the battle of lazy Kristin vs. couch, the darn couch wins every time!!

Any tips on pulling it together when you’re feeling oh so lazy??

Almost Home, For A Bit

August 16, 2011 by foodfash

The 5:25 flight from DC to Tampa is a toughie because you’re not hungry when you’re boarding the plane but mid-way through the flight you know you’ll be STARVING.

Being home to both a Five Guys and Cinnabon, this US Airways terminal has to be of the most caloric of terminals.  I walked towards California Tortilla, hoping there was something modifiable.  Much to my surprise, there was a no-meato burrito with a vegan stamp in parenthesis.  I’ll have one of those please!

Next, I marched on over to get a water and a magazine where I tossed in a last minute purchase of black licorice.  Gross?  You say gross, I say the acquired taste of kid that didn’t like to share and saw the value of a black jelly bean.

I tucked the no-meato under my seat and closed my eyes.  I woke up at quarter til 7, happily unwrapped my dinner, and shortly thereafter prepared for landing at home.

Less than two days till Healthy Living Summit!!!

Good Morning Plane

August 15, 2011 by foodfash

Good morning plane, I’m going to be seeing a lot of you this week. DC today, Tampa tomorrow, Phili Thursday, Tampa Sunday. Helloooo frequent flyer miles!

Thankfully the Starbucks line was freakishly short and I was able to grab an iced coffee because I’m feeling especially groggy this morning, even as far as Monday mornings are concerned.  And caffeine is a necessity before a DC landing as I know the second I arrive it’ll be non-stop work.

I also know that for the next 36 hours I’ll be at the mercy of my team of dudes and their burger and beer cravings. Even in the most sarcastic of tones, I can’t express to you how awesome that is… Fingers crossed I get to sneak away and order take-out. But just in case, I made sure to get some freshness in form of a fruit cup in.

See you soon DC!
