Seattle Junior

May 29, 2011 by foodfash

At this point, I’ve spent enough time in Milwaukee to determine that I really like it here.  I’ve already convinced my mom to come back for a mom-daughter trip this fall.  If it were south of the Mason Dixon line, I’d have lofty dreams about moving here.  I’ve come to the conclusion that Milwaukee is Seattle Junior.

We spent a portion of the day on Broadway Street, perusing the Milwaukee Public Market (see, Seattle Junior!), stuffing our faces full of lobster, and then getting our shop on.

A lobster dinner for $12.99??  Umm, I’ll take two.  Not really, but seriously so cheap, so good.   And… I forgot about the lobster/drawn butter combo.  I took advantage of the lemon wedges for the most part, but took a few dips for old times’ sake.  When in Rome, right?

After our uber filling meal, we walked around the corner to hit up the boutiques. The shopping here really reminded me of Seattle – the perfect combo of practical, expensive, new, and vintage.  I left with a vintage “top” that looks awesome in person and terrible in photos.

(Side note: Check out the Pedal Tavern, this is on my next visit to-do list.  FoodFash mom better be down with it!)

After Broadway, we headed to Steph’s friend’s place for some drinks and apps. The amount of renovated warehouse turned condos and warehouse-esque new construction is out of this world.  They’ve really done a great job with this city and I’m already super excited for my next visit!

Milwaukee: Stop 1

May 28, 2011 by foodfash

The oatmeal I had for breakfast faded mid flight and I was starving as I got off the plane.  So the second I unloaded my gear into the car, Steph and I headed to EAT.

We went to a little Mexican place in River West called Cafe Corazon.  The temp was in the brisk 60s, it was the coolest weather I had experienced and the warmest weather Steph had experienced this season.  We B-lined it to outdoor picnic area.

Steph had the carnitas and asidas taco plate and I had the vegan platter.  We cleared our plates and polished off our Dos Equis.

The bill arrived with two dum dums, which we gracefully chomped before leaving the table.  First Milwaukee meal = win!  Then it was off to Lakeside Brewery for the Environmental Brew Tour!
