Adventure Begins in the Kitchen

Lunch Date!

October 14, 2011 by Kristin

I have no food in my house.  As in, I ate popcorn for dinner last night.  And not that I didn’t thoroughly enjoy it, but I totally wouldn’t have eaten popcorn for dinner given a more meal-worthy option.  So today when thoughts of lunch time rolled around, there was no cruising home to make my own meal.

Almost as quickly as it it dawned on me that my fridge was food-less, I remembered that Val’s new job is much closer to my office and we hadn’t had our first lunch date yet.  We met half-way at Thai Terrace, where we were greeted with a small soup and veggie spring roll – standard lunch special treats.

I ordered the Tofu Pad See Ew and Val ordered Sweet and Sour Chicken.  It was the first time I had deviated from their Pad Thai and I couldn’t have been happier with my decision.  Level 4 spicy was right on the money.  Basil and crisp veggies were goodness gracious yum.  We were in-and-out within the hour.  And…  they served some fried sweetness as we waited for the check.

Thai Terrace is all about distracting you with snacks while waiting, which means I’m all about Thai Terrace.

Now I’m off for a Friday afternoon run before meeting Val and Amber for dinner and cocktails!  All this DC-ness has left me missing my friends.

Happy Weekend!!

Delayed Motivation

October 9, 2011 by Kristin

It’s a pretty accurate statement to say that if I haven’t been blogging, I haven’t been working out either.  After days of being a busy bee, I woke up with plans for both today.  But when I woke up to stormy weather, my motivation was as distant as the sunshine.

I felt stereotypically, stormy weather lazy until around 5 PM when I came to terms with how disappointed I’d be tomorrow if I spent the entire day lounging. I ate an apple with peanut butter while my headphones charged and then headed to Bayshore Blvd.

I was nervous about picking up where I had left off in my running app since it had been almost two weeks since my last run, but it ended up being one of the best runs yet.  Low 70’s, overcast, and breezy might just be my favorite running weather!

I stopped at Whole Foods on the way home to pick up kale and lemons to make Brittany’s version of Whole Foods’ garlicky kale.  Even though I’ll be in DC this week eating an abundance of garlicky kale, I wanted some QT with my kitchen and this recipe was the only thing on my mind.

I’ll be staying in Alexandria, VA until Wednesday if you have any restaurant suggestions!

Squares At Square One

September 26, 2011 by Kristin

For weeks, I’ve been excited about the Tampa Food Truck Rally.  And as we pulled into the Hyde Park Village parking garage, it was apparent that the rest of Tampa was excited as well.  The pictures don’t quite do it justice, but it was CROWDED!

Like… Really crowded.  And the combo of crowd and heat and vendors running out of food and our extreme hunger, well, it wasn’t good.  We headed out, but I must point out that our trip wasn’t a waste.  Val, Amber, and I were all a tad bummed that we didn’t get to chow down, but we were more excited to see such a turn out – Tampanians are eager for cultural opportunity!

We consolidated cars and decided on Square One for lunch.  Might as well cater to our fried cravings, right?

I ordered the portobello burger that was topped with lettuce, avocados, and sundried tomato mayo.  It was one of the more perfect shroom burgers I’ve had.  I’ll definitely keep Square One in mind when looking for a lunch place with a meaty crowd.

Val had the French onion soup, which looked super tasty as well.

And then we got our square on at Square One.  Amber pulled out her mustache app while we were waiting for our food to arrive and this is what happened…

Why is the mustache thing so overdone but still so funny??

More Gasparilla, In Pictures

September 21, 2011 by Kristin

Breakfast: Leftover Pancakes with Raspberry Jam

Lunch: Veggie Chili Salad with Avocado

Various Gasparilla Cookbook Snacks

Krista and Me with Mrs. Gasparilla!

Cocktail: Gasparilla Cookbook Rum Punch

Real Dinner: Spicy Kale (sans pasta) x2

After typing away on the computer all day, I headed over to Datz for The Junior League of Tampa’s second event celebrating the 50th anniversary reprint of The Gasparilla Cookbook (check out the first event here).  Krista and I had been planning this week’s Datz events since early this summer and it was nice to have another successful event under our belt.

I snacked on some veggies and homemade chips/pretzels during the event, but I was ready for something substantial by the time I got home.  I made a huge bowl of spicy kale and sat down to watch the season premier of New Girl (whether or not I dig the show is TBD) and ended up making another batch during a commercial break.  Yum!

Did anyone else watch New Girl?  What did you think?
