Adventure Begins in the Kitchen

Dearest FoodFash

December 17, 2011 by Kristin

Dearest FoodFash,

Today, you are two.  And for every second of the past two years, you’ve been a motivating force in my life.  You’ve turned me into a confident cook, baker, and crafter of all sorts.  You’ve given me the strength to show vulnerabilities and accept the support of my family and friends during the good times.  You’ve provided opportunities for me to test myself and become a stronger, better me.  But most of all, you’ve served as a connection between inner self and outer self, narrowing the gap between my dreams and my reality.  And for all of this, I am incredibly thankful.

Moving forward, I promise to remain committed to you.  I promise to keep you relevant, exciting, and pretty.  I promise to help you grow, connecting you with new blogging friends while nurturing your relationships with old blogging friends.  FoodFash… twenty twelve is going to be one for the books.

All my love,

Kristin

Look Out Weekend Pizza

December 3, 2011 by Kristin

This week was exhausting!!  I’m preparing for some big changes (that I can’t wait to tell you about soon) and with big changes come big excitement, but also big stress.

Ordinarily a busy week would call for delivery, but all I wanted to do last night was spend some QT with my kitchen.  I rushed home from work and prepared some pizza dough.

While the dough was rising, I headed to the store.  And for the first time this year, I bought REAL CHEESE.  I couldn’t have been more excited.  I also tossed a 6-pack of Bud Heavy in my basket.  It was going to be a good night!

I sprayed the dough with olive oil cooking spray and topped with crushed garlic, sliced tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and a little bit of salt.  I baked the pizza in a 450 degree oven for 15 minutes and topped with fresh basil for the last minute or so.

When I removed the pizza from the oven I couldn’t believe I had created such a perfect pizza!  It surely puts all my faux cheese pizzas over the past year to shame.  I can’t decide if real cheese is making a permanent comeback in my kitchen or if this is a temporary thing – only time will tell!

A Visit From The Goon Squad

November 29, 2011 by Kristin

It’s been gray and misty all day which crushed any hopes of running on Bayshore.  I exchanged the lack of motivation and  availability of Thai food delivery by having over medium eggs and cracking open my new read: A Visit From The Goon Squad.

Upon reading the first few pages, I was hooked.  Although, I knew I’d be hooked by the description.  I can’t wait to be a super nerd during lunch tomorrow and sneak in another chapter.

I don’t know why I’m saying I can’t wait…  I’m currently nerding out hardcore by sitting on the couch with two computers in my lap.  Now back to helping Matteo with his business cards!

Chick-lit-alicious

November 14, 2011 by Kristin

When my weekend visitors left this morning, I sat on my couch and pondered how to spend my Sunday.  I couldn’t remember the last time I had a free day without an impossible task list, heaping loads of laundry, and the weight of being out of town for the next however-many days on my shoulders.  I enjoyed the feeling for about two minutes until I freaked out and made a phone call, “Mom, I’m bored”.

She suggested going somewhere to read a book, which seemed like a genius idea.  And it was.  But I have this really awesome ability to turn the simplest activity into something completely crazy-town.  I think the library is closed today and they never have the books I want and I accumulate late fees like it’s my job and…  and…  and, I was tooootally trying to convince both myself and my mother that I needed an ereader.  I simultaneously researched ereaders and Jenna @ Eat Live Run’s book reviews and came to these day changing decisions: the Kindle and How To Love an American Man.

I, too, was hesitant of a book with such a “not me” title, but in a year of self discovery and potentially large life changes, the following review equaled total bait.

The author’s treatment of the central conflict that drives the book-the quintessentially modern female quandary of finding lasting love while staying true to personal ambitions-comes across with an integrity and veracity women readers will undoubtedly appreciate…Chick-lit-alicious.

I embraced the chick-lit-alicious-ness by making some frozen berry water, tossing on a maxi dress, and heading down to the pool with my new book-loaded Kindle.  Three hours later, I was still hooked!
