Adventure Begins in the Kitchen

Brrrrrrrr!

January 4, 2012 by Kristin

So this is my oh-my-gosh-i-just-checked-the-weather-and-the-low-tonight-is-twenty-eight-degrees face. I feel like I was just complaining about the hottest Christmas ever and now… Well, surely this is some sort of coldest January 3rd ever.

I put on my puffer jacket (no?  that’s not what they’re called?) and headed to Barre Fitness to meet Meghann.  Can you believe I haven’t seen her since our flight home from Healthy Living Summit!

I was really nervous about attending this class during my cleanse/detox, but I made sure to drink a ton of water and eat a decent amount of nuts (in addition to smoothies and kale) throughout the day.  Much to my surprise, I had plenty of energy tonight.  Was it easy?  Hah, no!  My body was a shakin’.  But this has been the best cleansing experience I’ve had to date and I was so happy to be able to finish a solid workout.

Meghann and I tried to find a place that was “cleanse friendly” for dinner, but everything was closed.  I can’t wait to read about what she thought of the class since she’s attended similar classes before.  BTW how great does she look??  She posted before/after pictures on Facebook today and the results are AMAZING!!

Monstah Lobstah

December 27, 2011 by Kristin

Earlier today, Val and I had a conversation that went something like this:

Val:  What do you think about coming over to my place and walking to Monstah Lobstah and getting crab legs for dinner?

Me:  I think that’s the best idea you’ve ever had.

We headed over to Monstah Lobstah on a mission.  We ordered a bucket of beers and a pound of crab legs each.  About halfway through, we both had the same fear that we were still going to be hungry when all the crab leg cracking was over.  We ordered hush puppies and onion rings and filled our bellies with bread-y goodness.

Val and I are both huge Crab Shack fans, but are totally on the Monstah Lobstah train after tonight.  Not only is it much closer, but it’s cheaper, the sides (especially the hush puppies) are amazing, and did I mention it’s closer?  We’re totally coming back next week for all-you-can-eat crab leg night!

Do crab legs fill you up?  Or do you find that you have to order sides in order to complete the meal?

Sunday Strolling

December 11, 2011 by Kristin

I wasn’t the only one who was in Christmas party recovery mode this weekend! I woke up, feeling nice and rested, to a text from Val wanting to get some food and catch up on one another’s weekend festivities.  I convinced her to walk to Anthro first.

Take an extra 30% off of clearance items?  Yes, please!  Anthro dishes are by far my favorite.  I hope that one day my collection will be significant enough that I can easily set my table with perfectly mismatched goodness.  And yellow jeans?  Uh, yeah, couldn’t resist.  I had never tried on Pilcro jeans before, but I’m pretty happy with they way they fit (especially for the price point).  I may or may not be on the hunt for the green and gray pairs…

After shopping we headed to Hula Bay to soak up some of the last of this season’s warmth.  I ordered the summer citrus salad, which had a ton more fruit than I could have ever imagined.  Whether or not I actually read the description, I’ll never know.  Regardless, so much sweetness was a welcomed surprise!  And bleu cheese on salads…  My oh my.

Thankfully I didn’t have anywhere to be after lunch, because I somehow managed to get balsamic vinegar all over the place.  My shirt (in two places), both arms, my hair, probably some places I have yet to discover.  So gross.

Are your white shirts magnets to messiness??

The Pie’s First Slumber Party

December 4, 2011 by Kristin

Last night, my uncle dropped The Pie off for her first slumber party at my place, which she quickly renamed “The Princess Castle”.  We went out for Mexican dinner, Christmas light hunting, and then back to The Princess Castle to watch Elmo Saves Christmas.  Someone is ready for Santa to be here!

She woke up bright and early, ready to be entertained and asking for pancakes.

Buckwheat pancakes with pure maple syrup and thawed frozen berries was exactly what The Pie had in mind.  She was so excited to dig in!

After she cleaned her plate, we changed out of our pa-jams and headed to Curtis Hixon Park.  Sunny and low 70s made for perfect park weather.

We ran around for what felt like hours until it was time to get the little munchkin back to her mom and dad.

Until next time Rylee Pie!
