After a long, long, long Thurdsay of driving, I arrived safely at my new apartment in the wee hours of the night. The drive took much longer than I anticipated due to the following sequence of unfortunate events.
– You know how your GPS will sometimes tell you to get off X Highway only to get back on X Highway in a few minutes? Well, I thought I was smarter than my GPS and stayed on I-10 through New Orleans, adding an extra hour to my drive between the additional miles and rush hour traffic.
– I kept hearing little critter noises in my backseat and thought a critter in my car was impossible, until… I remembered that I left the car door wide open at my grandma’s house while I was loading the rest of my belongings. I immediately panicked at the thought of a squirrel touching my feet or jumping on my head while I was driving. I stopped at the nearest gas station an opened both backseat doors, unloaded all of my tetris-ed things, and shook the car hoping that whatever was making that noise exited stat! No critter, but it set me back another 30-ish minutes.
– Then it was time for the home stretch! I only had 80 miles left and if I went 80 mph, that meant I could arrive at my final destination in ONE hour! Well, I did not account for a Texas state trooper pulling me over in my plan. No ticket (phew! still have never been written a ticket!!) but he easily added 30 more minutes to my drive. Ugh.
But then! I arrived at my new apartment and all of that seemed so unimportant. I made it! Safely! How could I hold on to an extra two-hour drive grudge when I have an entire weekend ahead of me to explore Austin as an Austinite?? No grudge, just smiles!
