Adventure Begins in the Kitchen

Kaeng Raeng – Day 1

September 4, 2012 by Kristin

Ever since reading about Kaeng Raeng on The Kind Life a while back, I’ve been curious to give it a go.  I’ve suggested this cleanse to friends, but haven’t had six solid days of dedication (for longer than I can remember) to try it out myself.  Knowing that this cleanse was endorsed big time by The Skinny Bitch and hearing positive reviews from my closest friends made clicking “purchase now” much less stressful.  In fact, I was pretty excited about it and even more excited when it arrived.

I woke up this morning ready to blend.  Even though the smoothie packets don’t require a blender, I figured the colder and more blended, the better.  My initial thought?  Not bad at all!  I have put myself through some pretty nasty, nose-plugging, cleanses over the years and Kaeng Raeng was actually light and fruity.  My only complaint at that moment was that 24 ounces is a lot of ounces of smoothie to suck down.

I say at that moment because four hours later, when I would typically be lazy and raging with hunger, I was hanging by the pool sipping on some water like a normal person getting my sun fix before my next smoothie.  So hours later, I appreciated the level of satisfied that quantity of liquid left me feeling.  Oh, and I looked forward to my next smoothie, which is a rare, rare thing on a cleanse.

I’m one day and three smoothies down and feeling pretty good.  Five more to go!

Austin Sunshine Fest 2012

August 31, 2012 by Kristin

Ever since moving here, Austin Sunshine Fest has been on the brain of most all of my guy friends.  Venue, bands, drink specials, details, more details – they’ve been hard at work planning an event with local bands that supports two local charities: Austin Sunshine Camps and Health Alliance for Austin Musicians.

A couple weeks ago, they recruited me to be a part of their street team and I couldn’t have been/be more excited to help out!  In addition to inviting the few people I know here that I don’t know through these guys, I’ve sent out Facebook and Twitter blasts advertising the event.  Today, I’m hoping that you or someone you know in Austin is plan-less this evening and looking for a completely rad way to spend a Friday night.  Tickets can be purchased here – http://austinsunshinefest.eventbrite.com – for 13ish bucks.  Get ’em while they’re hot and come out and have a good time.

After all, it’s for the kids (and musicians)!

Some Things

August 30, 2012 by Kristin

I went to my second official Austin Food Bloggers Alliance event tonight!  The crew from Cooking Planit invited our group to Moonshines to discuss their app and get some feedback from people who frequent the kitchen.  I had no idea what to expect, really.  I browsed their site beforehand like I was cramming for a test and, in true Kristin fashion, got distracted during the whole email verification process.  It would have been a huge ‘oops’, but the intro, panel discussion, and demo brought me up to speed.  And when the panel speakers walked up to the front of the room, I was super excited to see that Hilah from Hilah Cooking was there!  It’s getting more nice/less awkward meeting other bloggers.  I have the Alliance and Healthy Living Summit to thank for that one.

When I got home, there was a package waiting for me.  A package containing Eppa Sangria and Driscoll’s Berries coupons, both extremely appropriate for the upcoming holiday weekend.  I will surely get my berry bake on and sip on sangria before the Gator game on Saturday!  Is anyone else as excited as I am to get dolled up in their alma mater colors and try to remember how football goes??

In other news, my new camera also arrived this week.  Even though I’m sure upgrading from an XSI to a 7D won’t be as dramatic as when I made the switch from a point and shoot a few years back, I am so excited to get nerdy with this thing.  I made lots of promises to my blog on its 2nd birthday and this camera is a total reflection of my dedication to continuously making FoodFash better.  And if I was a betting man, I’d say this camera means bigger, badder, better videos.  Or maybe just better videos.  Such a sucker for alliteration!

And in other other news, I booked my first flight back to Florida today (well, to LAX then TPA)!  By the time I fly home, it will have been nearly 8 months since I’ve been home, which more than doubles my current record time away.  I plan on crunching in as much family, friends, and football as humanly possible while I’m there.

So much good stuff going on this week and I couldn’t help but share!
