Adventure Begins in the Kitchen

Side, Side Projects

Project_Sunshine_Fest_original

I’ve been more non-stop than usual and, consequently, I can’t remember the last time I baked something other than a frozen Newman’s Own margarita pizza for dinner.  But!  I have been working on some super cool side projects that tooootally justify all of the too-full-too-soon-pizza-box-filled-trash-can-action that’s been going on lately (sorry roomie!).

Like helping with a talent recruiting video for Austin Sunshine Fest 2013, an event that benefits Austin Sunshine Camps and HAAM.  I was a part of the street team last year and I’m so incredibly excited to be involved this early for the 2013 fest.  I’m also pretty pumped about getting nerdy with video.  Here’s some of the footage that we’ll be repurposing for the Austin Sunshine Fest video:

[embedplusvideo height=”309″ width=”500″ standard=”http://www.youtube.com/v/TAmU06TwNKA?fs=1&hd=1″ vars=”ytid=TAmU06TwNKA&width=500&height=309&start=&stop=&rs=w&hd=1&autoplay=0&react=0&chapters=&notes=” id=”ep9350″ /]

And then there’s the follow up from the meeting I had a couple weeks ago with Melissa Skorpil of Skorpil Photography.  I enjoyed working with Melissa at the Austin Food Blogger’s Alliance Cookbook photo shoot so much that I asked her if we could meet for coffee and chitchat.  As a result, I’ll be tagging along with her and a food stylist this week during their studio session.

A little explanation for the food hiatus!

Reimers Ranch

February 26, 2013 by Kristin

We met at the lake house bright and early on Sunday morning for Matt’s 32nd birthday breakfast and then headed to his favorite place, one of the most beautiful places any of us had ever seen: Reimers Ranch.

It was quite the slippery hike, but all eight of us and two pups made it to the rock where a few of the boys planned on taking a jump.

We munched on hiking snacks: bell peppers with hummus, berries, mangos, and trail mix.  And then we hauled eight very tired friends and two very, very tired pups back into town.

Happy 32nd birthday + 2 days, Matt!

30 Days In LA

Ever since the year I spent 30 days in LA, my best friend‘s boyfriend’s best friend has been a best friend of mine.  And ever since that year, my life has been a little different.  That’s the year FoodFash became a real thing and decided to stay a while.  It’s the year I started to dream a little harder, without resentment.  It’s the year I started wanting something more from my present company.  And most importantly, it’s the year I started acting like me again.

And I’m not saying that 30 days with my oldest best friend and a new best friend are responsible for all of that goodness.  But I can say that the year of 30 days in LA derailed me from heading in a direction I had no interest in going.

And days like today, when my brain is mush and I crave the comfort I found during the year of 30 days in LA, I can ask Adam to send me four songs he just can’t get enough of right now.  And I can listen to them, find comfort in them, and share them with you.
