Adventure Begins in the Kitchen

Hangin’ With My Supies

May 27, 2011 by foodfash

Happy Habitat for Humanity Day!!!  I woke up bright and early this morning to do all the things I should have done the night before, like pack a lunch and find jobsite appropriate attire.  It dawned on me that I threw most of that stuff away during my last closet cleaning, but I managed to find a pair of Hollister college capris that were begging to be ruined.

As much as I like adventures, I really do dread days like today – full days away from my kitchen and known restaurants.  I fear that I’ll be plagued by hunger and not be able to do a thing about it.  I attempted to mask this fear by packing a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, tofutti and jelly sandwich, a couple yogurts, and a couple waters.

I ate the Tofutti and jelly on my way to the house, but the yogurts and PB&J didn’t stand a chance when the boxed lunches were delivered.  When I saw they had a tuna salad sandwich, I dropped my cooler like yesterday’s news!  Manual labor created quite the appetite.  I finished the tuna sandwich, a small bag of chips, and then half of my PB&J.

As far as the rest of the day, I haven’t been on site since 2008 and it was nice to sweat a little (or a lot) and hang out with some of my favorite superintendents.  Superintendents avoid the office as much as possible, so it’s not often I get more than five seconds to catch up on their latest happenings.

As a team, we coated the block with two coats of primer and caulked around each window.  After a few windows and a slightly injured finger, I traded the caulk gun for a trim brush and a ladder.  We were blessed with a slight breeze and tons of shade, it was an awesome day!

Lens Learning, In Pictures

May 26, 2011 by foodfash

Breakfast: Raspberry Soy Yogurt with Ground Flax and Rocky Road Coma

Lunch: Pizza Do-Over with Daiya

Dinner: Quinoa with Artichokes, Olives, Spinach & Pumpkin Seeds

I am… Wondering how long it’s going to take me to get used to Mr. Macro.  Sun kissed nature is much more photogenic than fluorescent lit food.  The second I step indoors I have to resist the urge to slap on my stock lens.

Patience Kristin, patience!

100mm Macro Madness!!!

May 23, 2011 by foodfash

For as long as I can remember, I’ve never been able to wait for my actual birthday to receive my big present from mom.  And by not being able to wait, I mean my birthday is early May and I usually have present in hand no later than mid-February.  By mid-February, I without fail have an overwhelming need to own {insert obsession here}.  But not this year…

This year, I couldn’t decide on anything.  Two weeks after the big day and there still wasn’t one thing I could think of that I needed to own.  I had been entertaining the idea of a macro lens for quite some time, but wasn’t sure if it was worth the investment at this point in time.

Not being able to think of anything else, I decided to go to Best Buy yesterday to test out some lenses and shoot the shiz with the sales guy.  After a half hour of novice-ly questioning the surprisingly expert-ish sales guy, I knew exactly what I wanted.  I also knew that what I wanted was out of my price range.

I called my mom the second I stepped into my car and filled her in on all the important and not-so-important details.  She offered to pay for half, I gladly accepted.  We made plans to purchase the lens today.

I woke up this morning with lens on the brain.  She purchased the lens at the Clearwater store, I picked it up at the South Tampa store, all was good.  Chrissie met me at Best Buy and we carpooled to the Sweetwater Organic Farm to get our veggie on.

And what a perfect opportunity that was to test out my new lens!  I found that the automatic, no-flash setting and an outdoor environment meshed perfectly.  However…  after taking a few pictures around my kitchen, it was apparent that I have A LOT to learn!
