Did you know that the shelf life of a ground spice is roughly 6 months? Six months! Even with as often as I cook, the bulk of my spice collection dates back to before I moved to Dallas in 2008. Which probably means that my collection is in dire need of a makeover. I have to say cumin does wonders and can be used through a variety of cuisine. It’s so versatile and adds a great earthy, smokey flavor to dishes.
If I had to pick a *star* I would choose saffron. Though, I’m very careful cooking with it as I don’t want to accidentally screw up a recipe and waste such an expensive spice!

The spice that is top of mind for me lately (a.k.a. I’m obsessed with) is Indian curry. Even though it’s a mixture of spices. I’ve been putting it on everything from grilled chicken to sweet potato fries with avocado!

Cayenne pepper gets pretty heavy rotation in my place. However, if not limited to a single spice, I would say a nice Chili powder blend.

I seem to use cumin a lot, and it packs a pretty big punch. It can totally change the overall taste of a dish, which is powerful, but it is such a great addition to so many things!
